There are a number of pathways from Certified Interpreter to Certified Specialist Interpreter.
1. If you completed an Endorsed Qualification that is listed on the NAATI website as a pathway to CSI testing (including any required specialist units), you just need to show two years of interpreting work experience in your language combination.
2. If you completed an interpreting qualification that has not been endorsed by NAATI but which included specialised units in health interpreting, you will need to show evidence of at least four years interpreting work in the area of specialisation (i.e. health or legal).
3. If you have completed a Bachelor degree or higher level qualification in the area of specialisation (e.g. Bachelor of Nursing; Bachelor of Laws etc.), you will need to show evidence of at least four years interpreting work in the area of specialisation (i.e. health or legal).
4. If you do not hold any of the above qualifications, you will need to show evidence of at least six years interpreting work in the area of specialisation (i.e. health or legal) as well as 50 hours of professional development activities in the area of specialisation over a period of four years.
Please note that CSI testing is not available in all languages.
